 Lampang City Municipality

| Lampang City Municipality is the capital city of Lampang Province some 640 kilometers north of Bangkok. The city was incorporated March 25, 1935 by the Royal Decree. The city encompasses an area of 22.17 square kilometers with the population of 65,000 living in eight Tambons.
The city is the seat of central government which appoints a governor to coordinate national government affairs through hundreds of civic officials from all the ministries, including the local administration such as the city affairs under the ministry of interior. |

Leadership : Mayor and Vice Mayor
|
The Mayor of Lampang City Municipality is elected by the people. The mayor serves for four years. The Major?s duties are:
- To control the administration of the municipality affaires and act as the supervisor of officers and employees
- To formulate the policies which are complaisant with local laws
- To take charge of the administration in conformity with the laws
- To set regulations for the smooth and effective performance within the municipality
- To perform other related duties as decreed by laws
The Mayor is able to appoint up to four Vice-Mayors. The Vice-Mayors assist the Mayor in the administration of the municipality and act as mayor in the mayor's absence.
In addition, the Mayor can also appoint an Advisor to the Mayor, as well as the Secretary to the Mayor.

Lampang City Council
|
Lampang City Council consists of twenty four members elected directly by the local people. These include the Chairman of the Municipal Council and Vice ? Chairman Council, who are appointed by the Governor according to the resolution of the council. The term of the Municipal Council is four years.
Lampang City Municipal Council has the power to
- enact the municipal ordinance.
- evaluate the performance and duties of the administrative board.
- approve the municipal budget decree.
- appoint the standing committee and the ad ? hoc committee. |

Responsibilities and Services of the city
|
The city under the leadership of the mayor provides essential services for the city dwellers and the hundreds of thousands of people in the province and visitors who converge in the city which has most of the schools, colleges and universities, hospitals, banks, hotels, restaurants, bus terminal, rail station, airport. The city runs an annual budget of 101,120,602.00 Baht for 2008 fiscal year.
Education : Lampang City Municipality operates six municipal schools in the city from pre-school to middle school serving 4,233 students with 185 teachers, administrators, and support personnel. The schools are well accepted by parents with the quality teaching and caring environ. Graduates of the schools place well in their graduation to high schools and beyond. There are still challenges for the city to continue to improve the quality of education, especially in computer skills and access and in higher English proficiency as well as in math and science.
